My day 2 reactions of free agency.
Free Agency Day 2
Free Agents
1. Kendall Fuller (CB) Signed by the Redskins for 4 years, $40,000,000, $10,000,000. 6/10 Good prove it deal for Fuller, I’m hoping the new scenery will help him regain his former glory.
2. Mario Addison (DE) Signed by the Bills for 3 years, $30,450,000, $15,250,000 guaranteed. 6/10 Is 32 years old but has had at least 9 sacks every year over the past 4 years. Good PFF grades as well.
3. Randall Cobb (WR) Signed by the Texans for 3 years, $27,000,000, $18,750,000 guaranteed. 3/10 I liked what Cobb was able to do last year with the Cowboys but as a primary receiver who is 29 years old I think he is going to struggle on the Texans. Way to much money and guarantees.
4. Levine Toilolo (TE) Signed by the Giants for 2 years, $6,200,000, $3,225,000 guaranteed. 4/10 Not too much money for a below average guy. This is fine but no where near good.
5. Blake Martinez (LB) Signed by the Giants for 3 years, $30,750,000, $19,000,000 guaranteed. 7/10 Seems like a good deal for a tackling machine. Not sure what the Giants are going to run next year scheme wise but Martinez is an excellent addition. I know tackling can be misleading as a stat but I would have thought he would have gotten paid more.
6. Jimmie Ward (S) Resigned by the 49ers for 3 years, $28,500,000, $16,500,000 guaranteed. 5/10 A good Safety not great but worth the 9 mil, it’s close but no. Still a fine signing but they should have paid less.
7. Emmanuel Ogbah (DE) Signed by the Dolphins for 2 years, $15,000,000 $7,500,000 guaranteed. 7/10 A good short term deal that only guarantees 7 mil for a pass rusher coming into his prime? I’ll take that almost every time.
8. Chase Daniels (QB) Signed by the Lions for 3 years, $13,050,000, $4,350,000. 6/10 One of the better backup deals in the NFL. Still not a perfect signing but I like it.
9. Robert Quinn (DE) Signed by the Bears 5 year, $70,000,000, $30,000,000 guaranteed. 3/10 Quinn has had an up and down career and is now 29 years old. He had a good year when he played but do the bears think they have another Julius Peppers on their hands? I don’t think so. The 30 in guarantees is fine but even as a 3 year deal this is a lot too much.
10. Cory Littleton (LB) Signed by the Raiders for 3 years, $35,250,000, $22,000,000 guaranteed. 7/10 A good second contract for Littleton . One of the most underrated players on the market. Not too long is he doesn’t work in another system.
11. Teddy Bridgewater (QB) Signed by Panthers for for 3 years, $63,000,000. 9/10 I don’t know what the guarantees are here but I don’t think it matters. This is a great deal for a guy who has been underrated after his injury. He’s finally going to get a shot at running his own team and I think he’s going to kill it on this offense.
12. Joe Schobert (LB) Signed by the Jaguars for 5 year, $53,750,000, $21,500,000 guaranteed. 6/10 The guarantees make this deal bearable for me. I like the Littleton deal better but if Schobert can be a mainstay and Jags can move Jack back to a better linebacker position.
13. Jordan Howard (RB) Signed by the Dolphins for 2 years, $10,000,000, $5,000,000. 7/10 Great running back deal, short contract not too much money and a win now move. Love it.
14. Vic Beasly (DE) Signed by the Titans for 1 year, $12,000,000, $9,500,000. 3/10 We all long for the 2016 Beasly but he’s probably gone. I don’t like the big one year deal. If he shows promise your going to have to give him a bigger deal next year and if he’s trash you spent way too much money on a one year rental with other good players still out there on the market. The only hope is he’s really good this year and worth the 12 mil.
15. Phillip Rivers (QB) Signed by the Colts for 1 year, $25,000,000, $25,000,000 guaranteed. 6/10 Good deal, a good quarterback locked up for a year when the AFC South is open to any team. Sucks they don’t have a first round pick because they need to get a guy to lead this team into the future because Rivers is probably one and done.
16. Jason Witten (TE) Signed by the Raiders for 1 year, $4,750,000. 3/10 I guess he can block and be a leader in the clubhouse? Not impressed.
17. Bryan Bulaga (OT) Signed by the Chargers for 3 years, $30,000,000. 8/10 I’m not sure what the guarantees are here but I don’t think they will need to cut him so it doesn’t matter. Love this deal, Bulaga is not done and with Jack C. off the board he is my second choice for lineman on the market. All they need is a QB now.
18. DJ Reader (CB) Signed by the Bengals for 4 years, $53,000,000. 5/10 Too much for Reader, I like him as a rush defender. I’m unsure if an interior lineman is worth this much per year even if he keeps up the elevated play.
19. Darqueze Dennard (CB) Signed by the Jaguars for 3 years, $13,500,000, $6,000,000. 6/10 A fine prove it deal, still need to fill in the 1CB and 2CB position for the Jags but good job taking a stab at it.
20. Vernon Butler (DT) Signed by the Bills for 2 years, $16,000,000, $9,300,000 guaranteed. 5/10 A good rotation player on the Bills line. Like the deal but I’m unsure if he can be a full time player.
21. Tom Brady (QB) Signed by the Buccs for 2 years? 8/10 IDK what the cost is but replacing turnover Winston with Tom Brady can jump this team up to a double digit team easy. Love this move.
22. Tre Boston (CB) Resigned by the Panthers for 3 year, $18,000,000. 7/10 Underratedly good player on a 6 mil a year average deal. I love this deal.
23. Connor McGovern (G) Signed by the Jets for 3 years, $27,000,000, $18,000,000, guaranteed. 7/10 Really good contract, another underrated player who singed for less than 9 mil a year. Good play by the Jets and they need the line help.
24. Tre Waynes (CB) Signed by the Vikings for 3 years, $42,000,000. 3/10 Too much money on Waynes who isn’t bad but this is top tier money here.
25. Thomas Davis (LB) Signed by the Redskins for 2 years, $10,500,000, 5,250,000 guaranteed. 3/10 A solid eteran, on a team that’s rebuilding. I’ve got my wires crossed a bit, not sure how he helps the process.
26. Carl Nassib (DE) Signed by the Raiders for 3 years, $25,000,000, $17,000,000 guaranteed. 7/10 Nassib is underrated and good, one of the top guys left over on the market late in the day. Happy to sign him over Quinn at his price or Vic Beasly at his.
27. Quinton Jefferson (DE) Signed by the Bills for 2 years, $13,500,000. Another rotation guy for the Bills, love to build like that for the future playoff run. Having multiple guys who can play different roles is super important on the line.
Resigned
1. Jalen Mills (CB/S) Resigned by theEagles for 1 year, $5,000,000. 5/10 A prove it deal i can get behind since the cost isnt too much The Eagles need secondary help so keeping Mills.
2. Jerick McKinnon (RB) Resigned by the 49ers restructured deal. Less money spent on the RB position is always a good thing.
3. Drew Brees (QB) Resigned by the Saints for 2 year, $50,000,000. 8/10 Going to try and win again for the next two years with Brees is smart. Should grab a QB soon to replace him since this will be his last deal for sure. But go win now with Brees and the great deal they have around him.
Cut
1. Devon Kennard (LB) Cut by Lions. A surprising cut, he was the team captain, has good PFF grades and good overall stats. He could be usefully on another team.
2. Leonard Floyd (LB) Released by the Bears. A surprise cut for me. I get the injury history and a crowded defense. With Danny Trevathan getting a deal (which I think he should have) it seemed likely Floyd would be let go with his cap hit. Can be a contributor on another team if he can satay healthy.
