Free Agency Day 4+5
Free Agents
1. Bryant Mitchell (WR) Signed by the Buccs for 1 year. 4/10 Canadian league player who dominated in Canada. Skeptical about this deal but if anyone can turn some nobody into a star it’s Tom Brady.
2. Andrew Billings (DT) Signed by the Browns for 1 year, $3,500,000, $3,500,000 guaranteed. 6/10 An interesting second contract but I like the Billings signing for a year. He’s played a good amount for Cincy and his PFF grades are not bad. Under the radar for sure.
3. Torry McTyer (CB) Signed by the Bengals for a 1 year contract. 3/10 Has never really played before and has been on 2 teams in 3 years.
4. Keith Kirkwood (WR) Signed by the Panthers for a 1 year contract. 4/10 Looks like a depth and special teams signing.
5. De'Vondre Campbell (LB) Signed by the Cardinals 1 year, $6,000,000, $6,000,000 guaranteed. 6/10 This team is going to compete and it can’t replace every starter in free agency so bringing back Campbell makes sense. Campbell is a fine linebacker overall.
6. Kevin Johnson (CB) Signed by the Browns for 1 year, $3,500,000. 5/10 Don’t feel too much on this either way but the browns need secondary help or depth really and they made an attempt to correct this this offseason.
7. Todd Gurley (RB) Signed by the Falcons for 1 year, $6,000,000 8/10 The Falcon are still a playoff team so signing a running back as a win now move is really important. Gurley still has at least 2 more years left in the tank. If he does well this season he’ll be rewarded with a good deal (not as good as the last one) and I think he’ll get there.
8. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (S) Signed by the Cowboys for 1 year, $4,000,000, $2,500,000 guaranteed. 7/10 Wish this was a longer deal, Dix deserves it. But if you’re going for a one year playoff push this is fine and not nearly at the amount of money he deserves.
9. Stefen Wisniewski (OL) Signed by the Steelers for 2 years, $2,850,000, $375,000 guaranteed. 7/10 has been a solid and reliable player his whole careeer, really cheap for a good backup/average starter.
10. Joe Haeg (OT) Signed by the Buccs for 1 year, $2,300,000. 5/10 Protecting Tom Brady is the most important thing for the Buccs now. Not sure how good Haeg is but at least he’s depth somewhere on the line.
11. Roderick Johnson (OT) Signed by the Texans for 1 year, $1,750,000. 5/10 Fairly low tier signing but he played most of the games for the Browns last year so he can’t be much worse than the rest of the Texans o-line right?
12. Andrew Sendejo (S) Signed by the Browns for 1 year, $2,250,000. 5/10 The Browns still need safety help after trading away Peppers. Older but still valuable. A good guy for a push at 1 year.
13. Melvin Gordon (RB) Signed by the Broncos for 2 years, $16,000,000, $13,500,000 guaranteed. 7/10 A semi odd signing but I figured Gordon would go to a team with another good RB. But the Broncos had 2 good/serviceable RBs depending on who you ask so I expect them to move or cut Freeman. Even at the high guarantees this is the kind of running back deal I can get behind.
14. Eric Ebron (TE) Signed by the Steelers for 2 year, $12,000,000. 7/10 The Steelers need passing options and Ebron is the best tight end in Pittsburgh since Heath Miller so this is a good deal even if Ebron ins’t always healthy.
15. CJ Goodwin (CB) Signed by the Cowboys for 1 year, $1,000,000. 4/10 An unremarkable signing. Special teamer right?
16. Emmanuel Sanders (WR) Signed by the Saints for 2 years, $16,000,000. 7/10 The Saints keep getting better which is crazy to see, they are probably the most complete team in the NFL. Love this signing, wish they got Robby Anderson instead but Sanders can do especially as Brees enters the possible final season of his career. This is also why mock drafts before FA are kinda silly since a lot of mocks had them taking a WR but that seems way more up in the air now.
17. Jatavis Brown (LB) Signed by the Eagles for 1 year. 4/10 We’re very much getting into the signings that don’t really matter and Brown is a prime example of that. Going to probably give these are 4 going forward.
Traded
1. Darius Slay (CB) Traded to the Eagles for a third and fifth round pick. Slay then signed a 3 year 50 Million dollar deal with 30 Mil guaranteed. Verdict: Eagles needed secondary help which they got and Lions got out of a contract they no longer wanted to be involved with. Slay is a good player still even if he’s getting older so the Eagles won this deal by a slight margin.
2. Chris Wormley (DI) Traded from the Ravens with seventh-round pick in the 2021 Draft to the Steelers for fifth round pick in 2021. Weird deal between division rivals. Wormley was going to be a backup for sure so trading him makes sense for the Ravens. verdict: Ravens win by getting a 5th rounder for a guy who is average and was probably going to be cut.
3. Andy Janovich (FB) Traded from the Broncos to the Browns for a 2021 7th round pick. I guess the Browns want Chubb to be the NFL leading rushing leader right? Verdict: Like this fine not much lost on either side.
Resigned
1. Adrian Colbert Resigned by the Dolphins for 1 year, $1,775,000. 4/10 Every team needs depth right? That’s what this guy is on the newly designed Dolphins defense.
2. Andrus Peat (G/T) Resigned by the Saints for 5 year, $57,500,000, $33,000,000 guaranteed. 4/10 Peat hasn’t been great per PFF over the past twop years. Seems like he’s living off his good rookie year and following seasons. Not sure what to make of this but I’m leaning toward a bad allocation of money.
3. Dan Bailey (K) Resigned by the Vikings for 3 year, $10,000,000, $6,000,000 guaranteed. 6/10 Good kickers are hard to find, and Bailey is one.
4. Lerentee McCray (LB) Resigned by the Jaguars for 1 year, $1,047,000, $137,500 guaranteed. 4/10 Bringing back McCray is fine because their linebackers were such trash.
5. Neville Hewitt (LB) Resigned by the Jets for 1 year, $2,000,000. 5/10 An average player maybe worse than average but he played a lot for the Jets last year so keeping him on makes sense even if he doesn’t start.
Cut
1. Mike Person (G) released by the 49ers. Probably should have been let go as he hasn’t been exactly good. But i worry about shedding guys from a Super Bowl team.
2. Joe Flacco (QB) released by the Broncos. Makes sense, Flacco was always a bridge QB like Foles was going to be for the Jags. The Broncos are now on Lockdown so I can’t way this was unexpected or bad.
3. Todd Gurley (RB) released by the Rams. Makes sense to not pay him the money he was guaranteed after yesterday. Sucks they don’t have a first round pick to capitalize on the hemorrhaging of talent but when you make a superstar team for a super bowl run you end up make tough decisions down the road.
4. Pierre Desir (CB) released by the Colts saving 6.9 million. Smart move but the Colts really need help in the DB department.
