ONly the best takes here.

First Week Reactions of NFL Free Agency

Now that I’ve had more time to reflect on these signings I’ll give my non-reactionary take on the best and worst deals before 3/22/20. I’ll go through the best/worst deals below. A quick aside I think all of the franchise tags were smart without objection from me. The worst was probably Leonard Williams because they couldn’t get a long term deal done, probably dislike this if they can’t move Williams or don’t sign him to a long term deal. The best might be Derrick Henry and Chris Jones simply because they are on playoff teams and their respective teams are tight for money for long terms deals. (also no RBs should be payed like kings)

The below is going to be in order ranked (number 1 is the best/worst and the last number is the least good/bad)

Trades
Quick trade recaps as well.
1. Hayden Hurst (TE) and a 2020 fourth-round pick traded to Atlanta for a 2020 second- and fifth-round selection. Still think both teams good a shake out of this deal, I like Hurst a lot and he could have a better year than Hooper had last year.
2. Calais Campbell (DE) traded to Ravens from the Jaguars for a 2020 5th round selection. The Ravens won this deal but I still understand how difficulty it is for the Jags to move an older DE/DL player with a huge cap hit.
3. DeAndre Hopkins (WR) and a 2020 fourth-round pick traded to Cardinals for David Johnson (RB), 2020 second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick. Still as bad as it was last week, Bill O’Brian should have been fired on Wednesday.
4. DeForest Buckner (DT) Traded to the Colts for the 13th overall selection in the 2020 draft. This one I semi changed my mind about. I think the Colts gave up too much here to sing Buckner to such a ling term deal. I would have liked the Colts to go after someone like Clowney and pay for someone without giving up a pick. I still think Buckner is one of the most talented DL in the league so it’s hard to look down on the Colts for that but their allocation of capital here is annoying for me.
5. Stefon Diggs (WR) and a 2020 7th pick traded to the Bills for 2020 a 1st-round pick, a 5th-round pick, a 6th-round pick and a 2021 4th-round pick. Feels like this is one of the most even deals out there. The Vikings need to shed cap and they got a good amount of picks in return although really the only valuable ones are 1 and 4th rounds.
6. Nick Foles QB) Traded by Jaguars to the Bears for a 4th round pick. The Jags stole a 4th rounder and don’t have to pay for Foles such a win for the Bears. I applaud the Bears for trying to win now and get a better QB but I’m unsure if Foles is a better long term solution than Trubisky.
7. Darius Slay (CB) Traded to the Eagles for a third and fifth round pick. Eagles won this big time. I understand the Lions reasoning to get rid of Slay is OK and not totally bankrupt of reason but Slay had a down year in an awkward position with the Lions. The Eagles just bought low and even with the extension they could get out of it year 3 without too much dead cap.
8. Chris Wormley (DI) Traded from the Ravens with seventh-round pick in the 2021 Draft to the Steelers for fifth round pick in 2021. Steelers won this slightly. Getting an asset like Wormley for someone in 2021 who could be useless seems better than that pick.
