ONly the best takes here.

Days 6 + 7 of Free Agency

Format is going to get a little different now that we are in the final days of the first week of free agency. I’ll go over all the signings that I’ve seen online but I’m not going to give everyone a rating if they are obvious filler/depth.

Signings
1. Cody Davis (S) Signed by the Patriots for 1 year, $1,500,000. If Cody Davis couldn’t start on the Jags last year I’m not sure he has much value anymore.
2. D.J. Swearinger (S) Signed by the Saints for 1 year, $1,100,000. depth here, get your depth here. The last time he was a starter was 2018.
3. P.J. Walker (QB) Signed by the Panthers for 2 years, $1,565,000 contract, $150,000 guaranteed. Try out anything to get a good QB, good signing.
4. Pierre Desir (CB) Signed by the Jets for 1 year. He’s been a disappointment I know for the Colts but as a take a chance on me deal this is more than good.
5. Brian Hoyer (QB) Signed by the Patriots for 1 year, $1,050,000. Is Hoyer the new Matt Cassel for this Bradyless teams?
6. Nelson Agholor (WR) Signed by the Raiders for 1 year, $1,047,500, $887,500 guaranteed. I’d take a chance on him even if he was such a struggle on a playoff team last year.
7. Nick Vannett (TE) Signed by the Broncos for 2 years. I was on the Vannett hype train but now that he’s sharing the spotlight with the best tight end of the 2019 rookie class I’m out but good on the Broncos for having 2 reliable tight ends.
8. Laquon Treadwell (WR) Signed by the Falcons for 1 year. Depth and take a chance move? Yea those are one in the same sometimes.
9. Rashaan Melvin (CB) Signed by the Jaguars for 1 year, $2,250,000. Really just throwing bodies at the striking need for CB aren’t we?
10. Phillip Dorsett (WR) Signed by the Seahawks for 1 year. Depth for sure.
11. Peyton Barber (RB) Signed by the Redskins for 1 year. Depth here.
12. Robbie Anderson (WR) Signed by the Panthers for 2 years for 20,000,000, guaranteed. Feels semi unnecessary but this is a scary wideout group that will put Teddy in a good position to win games and be effective. This is still a rebuild but getting good young players onto the team is still important even if you don’t expect to compete this year. I like the signing but I feel like i would have liked it anywhere if it was for this price.
13. Travis Benjamin (WR) Signed by the 49ers for 1 year. Depth here
14. Tyler Eifert (TE) Signed by the Jaguars for 2 years. I might even classify this as depth but the Jaguars havn;’t had a good tight end for years so this is a positive step.

Resignings
1. Corey Coleman (WR) Resigned by the Giants for 1 year. I’m not sure what the detail are in the way of cash but this is flier and I don’t think he slots into starting lineup unless a serious injury bug strikes the Giants.
2. James Burgess (LB) Resigned by the Jets for 1 year. Not great grades for PFF but he had 80 tackles, 5 passes defended, and an interception in 10 games. Not the worse for a 26 year old on a bad defense.

Trade
1. Kyle Allen (QB) Traded to the Redskins for a 5th round pick. Feel like Kyle Allen could still be worth something and it looks like he kinda is a 5th round pick isn’t anything to scoff at. Not sure why the Redskins did this considering they have their own young QB that we aren’t sure were he fits into this team. I know i’m hyping up Allen here but I’m still a fan, like I am of Josh Rosen but maybe that says something about my judgement of QBs.

Cut
1. Stephen Gostkowski (K) Release by the Patriots which is just the end stamp on the Dynasty nonsense. Once the kicker is out you know the rest of the team is going to fall.
2. Cam Newton (QB) Released by the Panthers which really feels emotional for me. I think I really started following football right around 2010/2011 which is when Cam entered the league so feels weird man. Cam will still make an impact on a team but I worry about his longevity as I’m sure the Panthers do. Even as a backup on a team like the Texans or Cardinals or Ravens Cam could really slide in a be a great backup for a team that wants to compete. If he’s going to a team as a starter he could go to the Patriots, Dolphins, Chargers, Raiders (maybe) but I think he’ll see backup money somewhere.
