ONly the best takes here.

2021 NFL Draft: Second and Third Round Grades

OK so after sleeping on each pick here are my grades for the 2nd and 3rd round.

Round 3
105) Denver Broncos (special compensatory selection from NO) – Baron Browning, LB, Ohio State
Grade: A-
8th ranked guy on my Big Board and at a position of need; sign me the fuck up. Browning can rush the passer if they need him to as well so he might even fill in for Von if he’s hurt again. But if not he can still play traditional LB.

104) Baltimore Ravens (special compensatory selection) – Brandon Stephens, CB, Southern Methodist
Grade: (?)
Didn’t rank him predraft so not sure where to put him now. I like that they got a CB as Jimmy Smith is getting up there in years but not sure it should have been this one.

103) Los Angeles Rams (special compensatory selection) – Ernest Jones, LB, South Carolina
Grade: C
Not great in coverage which drops him a lot lower for me. The Rams needed a LB but not sure it should have been this one so early. Do better Rams.

102) San Francisco 49ers (special compensatory selection) – Ambry Thomas, CB, Michigan
Grade: D+
My 21st ranked CB, not a fan at all of this one. He’s a very risky prospect with a low chance at success imo but there is at least some chance for him to succeed.

101) Detroit Lions (from LAR; compensatory selection) – Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse
Grade: A
Another exceptional pick. They could have taken him earlier in the third and I probably would have been just as excited. Big fan of my 7th ranked CB in this loaded class. Love his explosiveness and his physical abilities, and even if they don’t show up right away I’m still a big fan.

100) Tennessee Titans (compensatory selection) – Elijah Molden, CB, Washington
Grade: A+
Huge steal here. As safe a bet to be a starting slot corner as anyone in this class. He is also my 5th ranked CB so this probably should say a lot about how I feel about Molden. After Jenkins leaves this is going to be a young and very good secondary. I am scared for my Jags.

99) Dallas Cowboys (compensatory selection) – Nahshon Wright, CB, Oregon State
Grade: F
My last ranked CB in this class, big number 38. Hate this pick.

98) Denver Broncos – Quinn Meinerz, C, Wisconsin-Whitewater
Grade: B
I wasn’t a huge fan of Meinerz so I don’t think this was a steal. Not a position of need but I’m a fan of adding to the interior when the oppuritny presents itself. I also like Meinerz to sit a bit and feel out the NFL before he’s guarding anyone’s franchise QB.

97) Los Angeles Chargers (compensatory selection) – Tre’ McKitty, TE, Georgia
Grade: D
10th TE on my Big Board; this was absolutely way too early. They needed a TE but it shouldn’t have been McKitty.

96) New England Patriots (compensatory selection) – Ronnie Perkins, DE, Oklahoma
Grade: A-
Perkins fell a bit and the Pats capitalized. He’s my 8th ranked edge player and the third is a perfect spot for him. This Pats defense keeps getting more dangerous and I’m here for it. Kinda scary to see Bill drafting chalk players but it’s probably smart.

95) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Robert Hainsey, G, Notre Dame
Grade: A
8th ranked guy on my OT Big Board. Huge fan of this pick. Love his hands even if he is a bit undersized but ranking him this high in such a crowded OT class should speak for itself even if he kicks inside to guard.

94) Baltimore Ravens (from KC) – Ben Cleveland, G, Georgia
Grade: A
Big fan of this pick, “1D” on my tired list of IOL. Ravens need to keep bolstering thier OL especially after the departures this year and last. He should provide an immediate impact to this team if necessary.

93) Buffalo Bills – Spencer Brown, OT, Northern Iowa
Grade: D
22nd guy on my Big Board so obvi not a fan. There is some potential here so I couldn’t really give it an F but I’m close to giving this pick that. Hopefully he will sit for a bit.

92) Tennessee Titans (from GB) – Monty Rice, LB, Georgia
Grade: B
”B” is for big fan of this pick. I don’t think LB was a big position of need for the Titans but Rice is my 13rd ranked LB and he’s a guy who can cover and learn to cover even better as the years go on. Good selection if maybe a big early.

91) Cleveland Browns (from NO) – Anthony Schwartz, WR, Auburn
Grade: F
Huge reach here, Schwartz is just a speed guy and that’s literally it. Bad selection and the first one for the Browns in like years lol.

90) Minnesota Vikings (from BAL) – Patrick Jones II, DE/LB, Pittsburgh
Grade: D
Think he’s just a JAG. Not a fan at all but at least they are trying to add to the edge.

89) Houston Texans (from CAR via CLE) – Nico Collins, WR, Michigan
Grade: C-
My 28th ranked WR on my Big Board. So this should be a bust pick right? IDK man I still like these Mich receivers considering how bad the QB play has been over the past two years so I’ll never fully count them out. A little early to take a chance on Collins but he could pan out.

88) San Francisco 49ers (from LAR) – Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State
Grade: D+
Too early, way too early. He’s my 12th rated RB but this class is not particularly deep. There were also way better RBs out there at this point so I especially hate it. Not a good pick.

87) Pittsburgh Steelers – Kendrick Green, G, Illinois
Grade: B-
This is fine value maybe a little early for my 9th ranked IOL but if a team really liked him they were gonna grab him. Has a lot of big blocks but I worry about consistency and if his hands don’t improve I’m afraid he wont be long for the NFL. At least the Steelers finally addressed a need.

86) Minnesota Vikings (from NYJ via SEA) – Wyatt Davis, G, Ohio State
Grade: A
Huge fan of this pick, he was another one of my top 4 IOL. Think he should have gone earlier which makes this a bonafide steal.

85) Green Bay Packers (from Titans) – Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson
Grade: D+
The 25th ranked WR on my board but I don’t hate trying to add to this WR group. I would have gone with about 13 other guys here. At least Rodgers won’t have to deal with bad QB play in his entire career. Better for him then for the Pack.

84) Dallas Cowboys (from PHI via IND) – Chauncey Golston, DE, Iowa
Grade: D-
The 26th guy on my Big Board which makes this a huge reach. Not sure what DAL saw here that I didn’t but I hate this pick, thanks.

83) Carolina Panthers (from CHI) – Tommy Tremble, TE, Notre Dame
Grade: A-
Tremble is a scary as fuck blocker but I think he can be more than that. Either way this is an instant upgrade at TE for CAR. 3rd TE on my Big Board and well worth it at this spot for such a TE needy team.

82) Washington Football Team – Dyami Brown, WR, North Carolina
Grade: B
The WFT has a bunch of JAGs behind Terry and Samuel so taking a guy like Brown is worth it. He’s the 9th guy on my Big Board and I think he would have been a fine choice in the second. Hopefully he stands out but WFT is already such a complete team I like taking a chance here.

81) Miami Dolphins – Hunter Long, TE, Boston College
Grade: C+
Not sure why they need a TE when they have Gesicki but I guess they have drafted almost every position these past two years so eventually they will need another TE. I will say the 5th TE on my board isn’t that talented as it’s a weak TE class.

80) Las Vegas Raiders – Divine Deablo, S, Virginia Tech
Grade: C+
11th safety on my Big Board. Feels weird getting another safety after grabbing probably the top one in the class. Better than going CB and maybe Deablo will play LB but I’m not sure I like him there at all. Could have been a worse pick but still not really a fan in terms of need.

79) Las Vegas Raiders (from AZ) -Malcolm Koonce, DE/LB, Buffalo
Grade: A
He’s not Khalil Mack, not even close but I like Koonce a damn good amount. He’s my 11th ranked edge player but I love the potential. Don’t think edge is a need for the Raiders in the short term but doesn’t matter; love the pick.

78) Minnesota Vikings – Chazz Surratt, LB, North Carolina
Grade: A-
Great selection, the 6th linebacker on my board. He still has plenty of room to grow but I already like him a great deal. Almost a steal but not quite yet. Had an early round 3rd grade on him but would have been happy with him in the second even.

77) Los Angeles Chargers – Josh Palmer, WR, Tennessee
Grade: B-
A little early for Palmer but LAC needs another WR to pair with thier young QB. My 18th ranked receiver but give him some time to adjust to the NFL and we could be talking about a star being born; but give it like 2 years.

76) New Orleans Saints (from NYG) – Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford
Grade: C
NO needs a CB but they should have gotten one earlier or just not made this pick at all. Adebo is my 17th ranked CB and has a someone impressive resume by the numbers but I worry that the tape doesn’t exactly match up with the numbers. Def a chancy selection.

75) Dallas Cowboys – Osa Odgizuwa, DT, UCLA
Grade: A-
The 7th ranked guy on my big board but this is the right spot for Osa. He could have been higher up on my Big Board and honestly I might have ranked him a little low. Good selection here and DAL needs defensive help so also a need.

74) Washington Football Team (from SF) – Benjamin St-Juste, CB Minnesota
Grade: B+
12th guy on my Big Board but I’m a big fan of St-Juste. Was a little surprised he went in the third but I’m a fan. Not too many holes on the WFT but adding to the secondary here is fine. Good selection.

73) Philadelphia Eagles (from CAR) – Milton Williams, DT, Louisiana Tech
Grade: B+
Not a huge for Williams as he’s my 10th ranked IDL but this is about where he should be drafted; maybe a little later. BUT He massively improved his play last year so getting to sit or work rotationally will really help this prospect possibly get there. PHI is a good fit for him.

72) Detroit Lions – Alim McNeill, DT, NC State
Grade: A-
My second ranked IDL. Like the player, he’s move really well for a man of his size. They already added to the interior in the second round and I would have rather they draft someone in the secondary here but I can’t knock the prospect.

71) New York Giants (from DEN) – Aaron Robinson, CB, UCF
Grade: C-
Not a fan of this pick as Robinson is the 18th guy on my big board. But at least he fills the role of slot corner. Adding to the secondary is fine for NYG but wish they went somewhere else.

70) Carolina Panthers (from PHI) – Brady Christensen, OT, BYU
Grade: B+
I like him more on the interior and I ranked him 5th on my IOL Big Board. But I’m a fan of this versatility and 3rd round is good value. I’m a fan of this one.

69) Cincinnati Bengals- Joseph Ossai, DE, Texas
Grade: A
3rd round is perfect for Ossai, he’s a little raw but his potential might be one of the highest in the draft. Not sure they needed an edge as I like Hendrickson and Hubbard but it can’t hurt to add more edge rushers.

68) Atlanta Falcons – Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan
Grade: B+
There are some decent holes on this line and with enough time in the NFL Mayfield could be very good. Not sure I want him starting right away but he is my 10th ranked OT.

67) Houston Texans – Davis Mills, QB, Stanford
Grade: B-
Odd first pick for a Houston team that needs lot of young help but I don’t hate it. If Watson can’t go in week 1 for whatever reason having a backup for the future or even for next season is worth the capital.

66) Minnesota Vikings (from NYJ) – Kellen Mond, QB, Texas A&M
Grade: B
I’m a fan of getting a backup, especially in the third round a year before the starter might leave. Good pick, although I’m still a huge Kirk fan so this wasn’t absently necessary for MIN.

65) Jacksonville Jaguars – Andre Cisco, S, Syracuse
Grade: A
Getting Cisco in the third round is a steal hands down. No way around it. 5th safety on my big board since he does have a decent amount of risk but the upside is very high.

Round 2
64) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Kyle Trask, QB, Florida
Grade: A
Great value for my QB5 this year. Trask has the perfect mentor for at least the next year. Great pick and no excuses now to not continue this burgeoning TB dynasty.

63) Kansas City Chiefs – Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
Grade: B-
I’m lower on Humphrey than most but end of second is fine, I have a third round grade on him. There must be diminishing returns on investing in the O-line right? We must be getting close to that lol.

62) Green Bay Packers – Josh Myers, C, Ohio State
Grade: C-
11th guys on my big board which makes this a reach for sure. I don’t love the prospect but they need to replace thier center so points for trying to do that.

61) Buffalo Bills – Carlos Basham Jr., DE, Wake Forest
Grade: A
Basham could have gone day 1 and I wouldn't be mad. Even considering they took Rousseau in round one going BPA or even kicking Rousseau inside on passing downs is a worthwhile endeavor. Big fan of this pick.

60) New Orleans Saints – Peter Werner, LB, Ohio State
Grade: C
Def a need for NO, glad they went LB here but Werner is the 11th ranked LB on my Big Board. They addressed a big need here tho so they get points for that at least.

59) Carolina Panthers (from CLE) – Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU
Grade: B+
I'm a fan of Marshall. He's the 10 guy on my board and this a need after Samuel left. I think there is some bust potential here but this is a very good pick.

58) Kansas City Chiefs (from BAL) – Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri
Grade: A
Love love love this pick. I’m way higher on Bolton than others as he’s my 3rd linebacker on my big board. This is great value for a good prospect at a position of need. KC adding to a great offseason.

57) Los Angeles Rams – Tutu Atwell, WR, Louisville
Grade: C-
This guy is a speed guy and only that. I guess teams really like speed at WR, that’s what I’m getting from day 2. This is not a great pick esp with Van Jefferson waiting in the wings. They spent a second round pick on him last year too. Not sure which one is going to start TBH but it should be Jefferson. He’s the 19th ranked receiver on my board so I’m calling this a big reach.

56) Seattle Seahawks – D’Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan
Grade: C+
This kind of addresses a need (2nd outside WR) but I feel like there were more pressing ones. He was the 14th guy on my big board so there were better options on the board. I don’t hate this pick tho it’s fine Eskridge could be good with Wilson throwing him the ball.

55) Pittsburgh Steelers – Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
Grade: B+
I’m not a fan of the baby Gronk comp as others are. Dealt with bad QB play at Penn State last year so the numbers probably should have been higher. But there is a clear drop off from Freiermuth to the rest of the TEs (Besides Pitts obvi) so I like this pick to add to an already talented offense skill position group. Can block too which is nice.

54) Indianapolis Colts – Dayo Odeyingbo, DE, Vanderbilt
Grade: B+
He got lost on a bad Vandy team and never really got to rush the passer like I would have like to see. At least the Colts are following my advice of edge, edge, edge in this draft. 10th guy on my big board so it’s a little early for him but not too early.

53) Tennessee Titans – Dillon Radunz, OT, North Dakota State
Grade: B
I hope he isn’t rushed into the tackle role but he might be. At least he was in a pro style offense in college but that college was ND State. Hasn’t exactly seen good competition except at the Senior Bowl so I think he needs to sit for a bit. If anyone is going to turn around a star lineman in a surprising way it’s TEN tho. 11th guy on my Big Board but I had a second round grade on him so this is fine.

52) Cleveland Browns (from CHI via CAR) – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
Grade: A
This is probably the right place to take a chance on a jack of all trades master of none LB like JOK and Simmons (2020). Think JOK works better as a coverage linebacker and that’s where he should play for CLE not any of this safety nonsense. IDK if he’s undersized.

51) Washington Football Team – Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
Grade: A-
5th guy on my Big Board so this is about right for Cosmi. Not sure if he starts right away at tackle for the WFT but that’s fine for Cosmi.

50) New York Giants (from MIA) – Azeez Ojulari, LB, Georgia
Grade: A
Agree with my twitter self. He should have been a first rounder but besides Tryon and Turner I don’t hate the dudes that went in front of him. But the Giants can use another pass rusher and this dude knows how to get to the QB and that’s about it. But who cares it’s the most important thing. 2nd edge on my Big Board.

49) Arizona Cardinals – Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
Grade: A-
Big fan of this pick and also is the right spot for him. Big boom or bust candidate for me but I like him going to ARI. Better than AJ Green and Larry at this point in both their careers. This should put an end to the Larry discussion as well.

48) San Francisco 49ers (from LV) – Aaron Banks, G, Notre Dame
Grade: C-
This was a big reach. Think he can be a fine scheme fir for the 9ers but there were better IOL out there. I like his pass blocking skills but this pick was way too early.

47) Los Angeles Chargers – Asante Samuel Jr. – CB, Florida State
Grade: A+
Love love love this pick. Was in the top tier of this class; I wanted him so bad for my Jags but the Chargers land a great prospect. He’s was better in zone but should be fine almost anywhere he goes. 4th guy on my Big Board.

46) Cincinnati Bengals (from NE) – Jackson Carman – OT, Clemson
Grade: B+
9th guy on my Big Board, he’s not Sewell but to be fair if they went tackle then WR this guy wouldn’t be as good as Chase. I don’t hate their tackles right now but Jonah Williams need to stay healthy. That’s for sure

45) Jacksonville Jaguars (from MIN) – Walker Little, OT, Stanford
Grade: C+
13th ranked tackle on my board and I would have rather the Jags get someone… at least more known. He hasn’t played since 2019 and I’m worried the progression just isn’t there. At least he can sit behind the OTs for a year or so.

44) Dallas Cowboys – Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky
Grade: D+
This is a reach. I feel like I'm on island here but Joseph is my 14th ranked guy. At least they go need here but I just can’t get behind this prospect.

43) Las Vegas Raiders (from SF) – Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
Grade: A
The best safety on my board and on others boards. Just switch pick 1 and pick 2 for the Raiders and this draft is very good so far and I wasn’t as down on pick 1 for them as much as others. Raiders drafting well even with the classic reaches.

42) Miami Dolphins (from NYG) – Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
Grade: A
Austin Jackson last year, Liam Eichenberg this year. Miami is killing it in these drafts. More protection from Tua and the 4th OT on my Big Board. Love it.

41) Detroit Lions – Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington
Grade: B
4th interior guy for me, people are higher than Onwuzurike then I am for sure. I like adding to the DL in any way you can and this is a risk that’s worth it imo.

40) Atlanta Falcons (from DEN) – Richie Grant, S, UCF
Grade: A
I know Moehrig is still here but he’s the 4th safety on my board and still a very talented player. So many good safeties in this draft it’s hard to just pick one. Big fan and a position of HUGE need.

39) Chicago Bears (from CAR) – Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
Grade: A-
Good pick here, I think Jenkins has more bust in him than people care to admit. I had a second round grade on him so this was about the right spot. Chicago needed to protect the new QB and they likely got a good one.

38) New England Patriots (from CIN) – Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
Grade: A
I said it perfectly on Twitter. If anyone was going to make Barmore a star it's NE. Won't be taking plays off on a Bill lead team that's for sure. Best IDL in the class.

37) Philadelphia Eagles – Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
Grade: A-
Really like this guy, def IOL 1B, big fan of beefing up the OL. Eagles do a great job of drafting in the second when they don’t for a skill position.

36) Miami Dolphins (from HOU) – Jevon Holland, S, Oregon
Grade: A-
Would have rather had Moehrig but Holland is still a very good player and worth the pick here. Like it a lot even if not a necessarily a need.

35) Denver Broncos (from ATL) – Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina
Grade: B
Love the player but this still feels a bit early.

34) New York Jets – Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss
Grade: A-
Love the player, young and get’s to pair with a good young QB. Huge fan, cut Crowder save that money or just let the contact run out I guess.

33) Jacksonville Jaguars – Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia
Grade: D+
I don’t think he’s necessarily bad this is just a bad pick with Barmore and Moerig on the board. CB is actually kinda deepish for us but that depends on what you think of Sydney Jones. Really didn’t capitalize on guys falling out of the first as Campbell was pegged as a second rounder anyway.
