ONly the best takes here.

2021 NFL Draft First Round Grades

OK so after sleeping on each pick here are my grades for the first round.

Round 1

32) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Joe Tryon, Edge, Washington
Grade: D+
12th rated edge for me. Know he was a big riser in the past few days but this was a huge reach. If they took him with thier next pick this could get into the C or maybe B range.

31) Baltimore Ravens (from KC) – Jayson Oweh, DE, Penn State
Grade: B+
Think they should have gone tackle here but Oweh is another project BAL can turn into a star. Think they should have waited on edge but hard to argue with.

30) Buffalo Bills – Gregory Rousseau, DE, Miami
Grade: A
Love Rousseau, might have a little ways to go on the outside rushing the passer but everything else is great. He uses his length so well in the run game, can play inside and rush the passer on passing downs from the interior so well. I just love this prospect. Smart pick but could be a little developmental.

29) Green Bay Packers – Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia
Grade: C+
The 10th CB on my board and he's not a bad player just a little early of a pick. CB is also a need for them so I don’t really hate this.

28) New Orleans Saints – Payton Turner, DE, Houston
Grade: F
This is such a reach, they have Davenport and Cam Jordan. Turner was 14th on my big board. Terrible.

27) Baltimore Ravens – Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
Grade: A-
Bateman, Bateman, Bateman. He’s the 6th WR on my big board and this was a perfect fit for the Ravens so way isn’t this an A+? I’m not sure but this doesn’t feel right. Bateman just isn’t as inspiring as I want him to be but at least they added another weapon for Lamar. This could be an A+ out of the park pick in 2 years and that wouldn’t surprise me.

26) Cleveland Browns – Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
Grade: B-
The Browns don’t have many needs but CB might be one. Newsome is the tentative 6th guy on my big board but I think this was kind of a reach. I still like Greedy and Ward on the outside. Troy Hill is great in the slot so not sure where he fits in but adding CBs in such a pass heavy league is fine by me when there aren’t other glaring needs. BUT there are glaring needs, at LB especially, so what the fuck are they doing? At least the talent might be there.

25) Jacksonville Jaguars (from LAR) – Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
Grade: D+
Is 3rd down RB really a need for the Jags, really? I thought this front office might have been different but I was wrong so far. Plz make up for this in the second round. He is the 5th RB on my Big Board. He’s a worse CJ Spiller which isn’t terrible but not worth a first round pick, not even close.

24) Pittsburgh Steelers – Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
Grade: C-
Have fun running behind this PIT O-line. Harris is my 3rd ranked RB but idk if he’s ready to take on a full time role yet. There were so many better options.

23) Minnesota Vikings (from NYJ through SEA) – Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
Grade: A
They traded down and still likely got thier guy lol. Can you say fleece? Love adding to this line and replacing Riley Reiff. MIN killing it again in the first round.

22) Tennessee Titans – Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
Grade: A-
Not a need at all but TEN has very few on defense. Love the talent not worried about the injury. I guess they expect Jenkins to play a year then leave but when he does Fulton and Farley will be lock down guys for years to come on TEN. Fuck.

21) Indianapolis Colts – Kwity Paye, DE, Michigan
Grade: A
If they took anyone besides edge this would have been an F. They need to come out of this draft with at least 3 new edge guys. Paye is my 3rd edge on the board so I like the talent enough in a crowded edge class.

20) New York Giants (from CHI) – Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida
Grade: A-
Still love the talent here. Toney is going to be boom or bust and when the Gmen have a new QB after next year I expect Toney to be good. BPA is usually not a bad strat for the offense.

19) Washington Football Team – Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky
Grade: C-
Reachhhhh. Not sure what everyone sees in this guy; he’s my 9th LB on my Big Board. This guy is just a run stopper so far in his career and I’m not sure he’s going to be a good coverage guy and that is so necessary in the contemporary NFL. At least this was a need so they get points for that.

18) Miami Dolphins – Jaelan Phillips, DE, Miami
Grade: A
My favorite edge rusher in the class. Great pick as MIA doesn’t have a lot of needs but edge seems to be one of them.

17) Las Vegas Raiders – Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama
Grade: B-
A reach but Leatherwood is not a bad player. Had an early second round grade on him so not too much of a reach but would have rather other guys. This was also a heavy need so the pick gets points for that.

16) Arizona Cardinals – Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa
Grade: B+
Arizona wilding out with LBs this year and last. I like Zaven 100% more than Simmons. He can cover and can blitz so will hopefully be used in the right way and become a star because that is 100% possible.

15) New England Patriots – Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
Grade: B+
Go get your guy NE, I want to trust Bill here but I don’t love Jones. Getting a QB tho makes this team way more of a contender then before.

14) New York Jets (from MIN) – Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL, USC
Grade: B-
Not sure why they traded up and gave up so much for Vera-Tucker when Darrisaw was on the board. I like the versatility and trying to again help a young QB stay upright but I think there were other needs and this trade was not worth it.

13) Los Angeles Chargers – Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Grade: A-
I think I said it fine in my tweets. Got more protection for Herbert; smart. Slater did fall farther than most people thought but I nailed this pick in my mock ;).

12) Dallas Cowboys (from PHI through SF, MIA) – Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
Grade: B+
Parsons is a little raw and honestly I think fits best as an 3/4 outside linebacker but DAL linebacking group now is top tier if they can stay healthy. A little early for LB as well when CB is such a need. Good thing CB is a deep class.

11) Chicago Bears (from NYG) – Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
Grade: A+
I wanted to give this an A+ so I fucking did. Bears got thier QB of the future and like I said before I won’t knock a team for getting thier guy. Fields is my 3rd QB in this class but there is a drop off from the top 2. Allen Robinson finally get’s a good QB so this is also an A+ for him as well.

10) Philadelphia Eagles (from DAL) – DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Grade: A
Great player, my number 2 WR. They needed to either go WR and CB in round 1 and 2. All they need to do now is draft a good CB in round two and this is a great draft. Go Birds.

9) Denver Broncos – Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
Grade: B+
Uhhhh yea not sure where Surtain fits in on the defense this year. They already have Bryce Callahan, Michael Ojemudia, Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller soooo does he start this year? Probably. To be fair tho Surtain is very talented and I like him as a player. Also the Broncos don’t have many holes (besides the obvious QB one) so any pick was going to run into a crowded group.

8) Carolina Panthers – Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
Grade: A
Think there were other needs but love Horn the player. My number 1 CB (although it’s very close) goes to a defense that is already super young but now gets younger. Love the way CAR is building thier team.

7) Detroit Lions – Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
Grade: A
Love the pick here, Penei fell too far. Is the Lions O-Line really good now? Good for Goff now draft a WR or 3 for him plz.

6) Miami Dolphins (from PHI) – Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
Grade: A
I want to give this an A+ but ehhhhh idk it just wasn’t enough a need. BUT Waddle is the best WR in this draft and getting Tua a legit weapon will go a long way. Waddle and Fuller on the same team is fucking insane, good for MIA.

5) Cincinnati Bengals – Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Grade: B+
Not sure that WR was a need especially when Sewell was on the board. Chase is my 3rd receiver; just not sure where he stands since opting out. Worried Jefferson was actually just the better receiver but still think he’s talented so this is fine.

4) Atlanta Falcons – Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
Grade: A-
Tight end this early really scare me. I like the film a lot but if the Falcons are going all in they should have traded back and drafted defense. They need to go defense from here on tho.

3) San Francisco 49ers (from HOU through MIA) – Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
Grade: A-
Look I’m never going to really knock a team for going to get thier QB. I don’t love Lance but if someone is going to sit behind a starting QB like Jimmy G, Lance is the best option.

2) New York Jets – Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
Grade: A
Not as talented as Lawrence but below still applies. If they took someone else this would have been an F. Wilson is the guy; as he should be.

1) Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Grade: A+
They say he’s a generational talent and the Jags 100% needed to do this so I gatta give it the old A+. Would have been an F if they went anywhere else so that says something right?
