ONly the best takes here.

Week 9 NFL Reactions 2021

ATLvsNO

Never seen Matt Ryan have such a good opening drive.

CGH almost got another INT, didn’t see the same hate Jamal Adams received for his drop… hmmmmmm

Harris fell down on a lowish throw from Siemian but still, not a good play from NO

Siemian has been bad through the first Q, Hill should be in but also only 3-0

ATL defense showing up? Ehhhh not really

ATL with a big stop on 4thand 1 at like midfield. Still 3-0. Interesting

Deep ball to OZ was open, Lattimore and the secondary getting picked on a bunch today

Huge big run from Kamara, holding I was going to say good blocking because of a huge hole, but still a nice run from Kamara. Still good blocking tbh

Terrell has been growing on me steadily for ATL

Nice run by Smith on the under, very nice

Saints are killing themselves with penalties

Yea I’ve seen enough Matt Ryan played out of his shoes, best game of the year for him. Still has some good stuff left eyyyyyy? Yes Chadface

Siemian might have better touch on his balls than Hill but the upside from running the ball from Hill just makes this the better QB. I don’t want to be a Taysom stan but he should be starting. The legs from Hill make it the difference maker. Might have won the game if he started. Why pay him so much money? I hate it in NO

Saw Rush (71) with some good pressure on limited snaps, curious to pay attention to maybe?

NO with two sacks to get the ball back and good return, nice job getting the TD, Still for the score lol at least not on Terrell but on Moreau (he has def been bad)

DENvsDAL

Ice 4th down stop by Simmons and co on the defense. Didn’t seem that Von was giving them much of an edge tbh. They don’t need him with the lockdown secondary they have if the safetys can play up to what they have done over the past two games

Parsons is fucking everywhere, thank god they use him like a DE or 3/4 edge. Love it, thank god just thank god they aren’t dumb like the Jags (before this year)

Game is starting off strong for the Denver D, which is the most important part of the team right now

Cooper had a huge drop on 3rd down but also had a huge catch early on when the pass offense was struggling

So much talent on both offenses, really shows you how good the DEN secondary can be. Unsure how sustainable each week tjey will be tho

Williams is such a machine but right now it doesn’t matter, Gordon is good enough to stay around. Williams also split like this and was very successful in college so like no reason to switch it up at all, probs won’t even change next year nor do I think it should.

Yea the stats are right about Diggs, he’s kind of like Marcus Peters, makes big plays but also lets up big plays. Could be a lot worse

Gordon on the goal line makes sense, like they went back to him after he got stuffed. Williams would have been good too.

Remember when people thought Zeke was cooked? DUMB

I mean I’ll say it on the down day for the Dallas offense I’ll take 5 targets 2 catches for 37 yards over 9 targets 2 catches for 22 yards. One is better than the other and taking on the best CB

Soft Teddy with a good run game and a good D is great. That’s smart. Do that forever. Hard to accomplish and keep going year to year but it’s winning if you can do it. Just make sure the runners are running well and don’t ask too much from Teddy. Perfect game for them vs DAL tho and they have a great pass D. hard as fuck to do.

If Lock had started at all this year they wouldn’t be in the playoff hunt

I haven’t said much on Tim Patrick but dude he keeps doing well even with Jeudy and co back in action. Doing it on Diggs for the most part too. I was wrong about doubting him. He’s a better Keelan Cole as in he can be a number 2/3 receiver in a good offense (without Teddy probably). Nice to have him as a number 3 tho very nice. Better than Cole as the 3

Den still needs a good QB, asap. Draft away bros, draft away. The defense being so good won’t last year to year

MINvsBAL

Yea lamar is lamar and I should have won by big parlay, fuckin A

He makes up for the mistakes with great running and being a good passer. Still don’t love the deep ball which sucks for Hollywood

Wonum in on TFL but got a penalty one a good play, not his fault. Good penetration, seeing more pressures, love it.

Kendricks with a nice coverage on Andrews who dropped it in the EZ, shoulda caught it but not the best throw

It’s just so clear how much better Cook is than Mattison but doesn’t Mattison is that bad

Jefferson TD, just easy and caused by Jefferson, he’s so good

Min stopped on a big 4th and goal but there is a flag for PI I kinda disagree with it, might have been uncatchable. Maybe a hold is better but wouldn’t really matter

KJ Osborn is a good number 3, will see if this continues for the rest of the year. On and off but that’s like what a number 3 does lol

Where are we ranking Kirk among top QBs? Because this game was really good vs a good defense coming off a bye

Bynum not that good per my assessment before the draft, the INT was nice but idk about him, don’t think the film has improved that much since college

Lamar had Bateman deep in double coverage and underthrew him, they got the PI but this happens wayyyyyy tooooooo often

OK I will say a lot went wrong for BAL and they still won. Very impressive, close to getting that MIN upset but still

No one picking on Averett this game huh? We going to complain about him still lol

Ever since Freeman got snaps for BAL he has 100% been the guy. Still remains true.

Barr INT was great, Kirk and co should have won after that. Not really Kirk’s fault the Bal D really did a great job of punishing conservative play calling

CLE vs CIN

Almost got another return before the Ward INT return lol, not on Burrow for the 2nd and goal failure.

Ward def made a nice play but the receiver did fall down lol

Ward on Chase too, now he is feeling the sting of a 1CB on him

Good answer by CIN, good play from Burrow and this very potent offense

Perfect game for CLE and with Chubb back and Odell gone it would be like a perfect storm for CIN, sorry they got the brunt of it but if you can’t defend the run and you can’t score a bunch before the 4th quarter the game is likely over

Eli Apple burned for the DPJ TD? I’m not surprised. That could have been Baker and Odell but Baker be playin

Chase with a fumble, man those hands aren’t great. He’s seeing more difficult coverage and the deep balls aren’t coming because they were a bit fluky. Rookies take some time and Chase needs some time to iron out his game. The first few weeks were obvious overreactions.

Damn Burrow should have had another INT, yea he needs to take care of the ball more. Very not ARodge of you

Mixon was the key to the offense in this one, the OL wasn’t helping for the pass offense but it was serviceable enough for Mixon to get loose a whole lot

Like to see chase in the screen game, fan of that and I’m not normally a fan of that play with big deep threts

Garrett has 12 sacks just as an FYI, he’s my frontrunner for DPOY but the Browns will have to make the playoffs or at least play well enough to compete late into the year

Hubbard with a sack too, just love to see that vs CLE OL

CLE and CIN both good teams but this wasn’t an upset even in CIN. CLE is what CIN can be in a year or two. If CLE was fully healthy this wouldn’t be close and it wasn’t while they were hurt. In the offseason CIN needs another CB, interior DL, OL which are all very fixable in the offseason. CLE needs more WRs lol. They chose Baker over Odell as was expected but at least they got rid of that toxicity. DPJ has been ok but he’s not ready at all to take on the alpha WR1 role. CLE doesn’t really need a WR tho if they have 3 good RBs and OL locked up for like 3 years at least.

JAX vs BUF

Double no Robinson for the Jags damn. Get why they were nervous about Little starting but I was a fan of the snaps I saw. Encouraging for sure

Hyde running well, going to 100% credit the run blocking against this very very very very vyer good defense

Getting the ball in Vishka’s hands is so important, love the call early on

Would be cool if Lawrence had receivers who could catch the ball, losing Chark has really hurt the passing attack. Thought it wouldn’t be that bad but I was wrong

Joe Cullen must be protected at all costs, he’s a great D coordinator. Give this man the keys to the city

Lots of penalties early by BUF

Can the Jags receivers catch? Agnew please help out Trevor with your hands not just ur feet

Taylor has been kinda bad this year, ehhhhhhh he hasn’t been bad enough to affect how well the Jags OL has been

Allen with some bad very inaccurate throws but made up for it with his legs/running ability

Beasley with a lot of good catches but had a huge drop at the almost end of the second quarter

Dan Arnold, like I’ve said before, is the best receiving TE that Jags have had in a very long time and Trevor actually uses him

CJ Boatyard almost had a really nice TD but the receiver dropped it

Hyde fumble didn’t matter he had a good day

Damn Chassion didn’t even have a bad game, the entire DL was great. Bad look for BUF OL going forward

First INT was all on Allen, very covered and the pressure was getting there but still

Long drives are def helping out the Jags, good for the offense that has struggled to move fairly well against one of the best defenses in the league

BUF defense was still very very very good. The OL lost it for them along with the worse Josh Allen

Rudy ford with a game, keep him in the slot, he isn’t a safety anymore

Jones was wide open deep, Lawrence missed him on a bad deep ball. He usually has a good deep ball tbh

Josh Allen dropping into coverage isn’t the worst thing. Parsons is going to be a better version of Allen but that doesn’t mean Allen can’t cover

Myles Jack was in the right role for the game idk what it was because I don’t know schemes that well but he played lights out and fast, which is how he should be used

QB Josh Allen had an off game vs a very beatable defense, Diggs was covered a lot (great job by Griffin when he was on him), not great but the legs still really help his fantasy value at least (and his real life value a bit as long as he doesn’t get hurt). He does also have a fumbling problem that comes with the rushing. Still don’t think Allen is worth the contract and it’s not just because of this game

Lawrence continues to show flashes, had a really great throw on the run and dealt with some drops but also is off with his accuracy a bit and made some hasty throws. It’s def not all there at all but this was a tough defense and he didn’t throw a pick so that’s def progress from throwing 5 in the first two weeks.

BUF defense is still insane. They need a real RB tho, a hard nose runner to compliment Josh Allen and that insane fucking defense

This was def a game I was very off on. (as most were) can’t trust the process on this one but this one of the only ones

One final thing on Urban, I like the challenges. Those were smart and it’s something I can trace a coach is directly influencing

Smoot still just a rotational guy imo, a very good one tho

MIA vs HOU

Lol this game had 5 INTs and 2 TDs LOLOL

No Tua and MIA still won? Very nice. Still a very dangerous team

Both these offenses are filled with backups or guys who will be backups next year lol (No Fuller, Parker, Tua. Tyrod will be a backup again, Lindsay, Johnson and Burkhead too)

MIA OL still young so give it some time and stuff but it’s bad right now. That was can def agree on

Both defenses are healthy and like I’ve said before and even a cursory glance at the box scores will tell you the same. HOU defense isn’t that bad. It lacks star power but will likely regress a bit last year

Holland with a nice INT in the endzone on a similar play to the one before. Playing high safety on a deep ball he killed it. Going to be a great starting safety for a long time.

I feel like I’m seeing more good blocking on the goal line from TEs than OL. Not great

Lindsay is the best RB on the Texans but that doesn’t mean much. Only safe to start vs a bad team.

Murray with a nice INT too, Brissett is a backup. It’s more clear than ever, if it wasn’t that’s one you

Phillips showing up, on the stat sheet at least

Tyrod is always good early on in the year then fades towards the end. This one was a combination of bad Tyrod (normal Tyrod) and a good MIA defense

If MIA had Tua they might have shut out HOU

Yo is Van Ginkel actually kinda good? Or just a good rotational guy on a good defense? Think the answer might be similar to Dwayne Smoot

Why is Holland returning punts bro, WHYYYYYYY FLORES WHYYYYYYYY

I ‘ve mentioned Byron Jones a bunch but he doesn’t get enough credit I guess because this is a bad team right now

Martin got a sack, still like him the best as a pass rushers on HOU. Good average to above average guy but he can’t be the best guy on your front 7. TBH the HOU job would be a dream for me (without the Watson issues obvi). It’s basically a blank slate with lots of cap room and draft picks. You could make this team in your own image so well.

Gesicki with a sick catch, always been athletic. I could legit see him and Pitts have similar career trajectories. Obvi Gesicki doesn’t have the potential that Pitts has but I think the breakout for Pitts might come a bit later like it did for Mike

I will say Tyrod had a tough matchup to come back on, but I’ll be the only one saying that

LVR vs NYG

I am saddened by this result

Roche with a sack! Love him as a rotational guy but he came up BIG against Miller in this one

Damn that Engram TD was based, very nice grab and not that bad of a throw either

Lots of running for NYG, LV had no answers for Booker lolol that can’t be good. Maybe Las Vegas does have a shot vs KC next time they meet :)

Yan with 2 sacks finally getting the stats to back up the production. Also classic Yan strip sack. He can bea difference maker and with a QB that kinda fumbles a lot this was a likely outcome

Carr and co with a great answer after the NYG TD. Damn bro how did they lose this one?

Renfrow beating Bradberry on the goal line for a score, love to see it. Both good at what they do but Renfrow just better with the short yardage

Waller seeing an uptick in the new offense? Ehhhh I don’t think Ruggs had that much impact but maybe against a good CB room like NYG has

I needed a little reminder about Jacobs, he’s looking as close to normal as he did early on in the year

Very good GL defense from NYG on the second time around, can’t force it to Waller back there (or rather was unable to)

NYG keeping it close with lots of yards on the ground and a good throw from Jones. That’s what NYG should do.

Having Golladay back really helps but getting Toney only 1 target is criminal but semi expected. He will be boom or bust. I think more boom than bust tho. At least Toney’s reception got a first down lol

McKinney with the TD, knew there had to be a special teams TD or defense TD in this one. Good job jumping the route by a very good safety who was limited his rookie year because of injury. Throw was behind Renfrow and on Carr but Hunter got boxed the fuck out

Williams getting home on a three man rush is just dumb, god damn. Leo Williams continues to be underrated. Good job bending not breaking from NYG again

Not sure if NYG decisions to run the ball a lot was because of the good pass rush from LVR and bad OL pass pro getting to the QB often. Either way their defense held and made plays to win the game. QB was efficient and they were allowed to keep running the ball. That’s good offense and good defense

Is this the week of the young safety lol, he might have single handedly won the game for NYG

OK I figure this game out, he process was fine like I suspected. NYG had some very well timed turnovers (that resulted in a TD) an efficient passing game and a bend don’t break defense. That will be good enough against above average teams for sure because NYG is an average team. Vegas even with the mistakes could have def won, I feel good about LV still

Jones played very well in limited work.

I’m writing this one off for Carr, his bad throws were punished more than most QBs

Good on NYG for capitalizing on turnovers. Can’t wait for Saquon to come back to see what this offense can really do. Just get a better OL please

CHI vs PIT

Process was correct, these teams (including SF) are all almost the same. This result reinforces that for me. CHI should have won. Taking the chance on CHI with +250ish moneyline was the right call easy

OK so Najee looked really good in this game and the stats are kind of lying. Very hard nose running against a good bears run D. Impressive but to be fair Najee is a good RB he just needs to put it all together before I crown him a king. Def worse later in the game, a little slower (like we’ve seen him in the past)

Can Chase Claypool please get a QB with a real arm? I would draft him at whatever his adp would be. I’ll keep saying this each week and it’s true. I will say this all year if I have to

Wow an RPO with Fields worked well; color me shocked

Fields with another bad deep ball, throwing to Herbert. Had another really bad ball but he had a Lawrence esc amazing deep ball that shows maybe he can develop into a great QB (like Lawrence). Another nice deep ball on an open receiver (what is going on with Minkah). So he’s batting .500 on good deep throws right now.

Herbert was in a bunch it just didn’t connect and Montgomery is like a top 5 RB talent so I get that Herbert would be bench bound

Yea if Quinn didn’t get a sack this game I would be disappointed. I imagine if they had Mack they might have won the game lol

Only allowing 3 sacks is huge for CHI, I kind of expected 5 at least but if they were to try and win they would need to hold off the pass rush as much as possible

Love the performance from two young TEs, they wull be good for years to come. Pat F is a little ahead of schedule

Vildor with a nice stop, still like him a lot as a second CB

Ben actually had a great throw on the Pat F (1st) TD. Best throw of the year for him maybe?

Just because Herbert is 100% taking a very backseat role to Monty doesn’t reflect on how good Herbert is

Love how much Fields is running early on, please do that more and win games

Patty F got the TD on Vildor through the PI. Huge mismatch in the RZ so don’t really want to blame Vildor but can’t blame anyone else (besides the coach) for that score

Man has Minkah fallen off? I don’t think I’ve seen many, if at all, good plays in coverage from him in this game and all year. Not good

Roquon is a fucking tackling machine and he plays well in coverage too. Man what a good player. Total opposite of Minkah this year

I loved the playcalling for CHI, holy fuck. They ran a lot of RPOs, they ran with Montgomery correctly, Fields scrambled and made some double take insanely good throws. Love it, idk what happened to Nagy since covid but it’s made him a better playcaller on the offense (if he was/is calling plays)

The Marsh sack penalty was egregious, you can’t influence a game like that as a ref. You absolutely just can’t.

This was Fields best game, loved what he was able to do vs a very good defense. Had some great throws in tight spaces, some good deep balls, not really many mistakes and the most important was using his legs. Great game from him just an unfortunate end

Ben is bad but he had a fine game vs CHI, wasn’t really asked to do much but hit the broken play deep ball and was good around the goal line.

PIT and CHI just aren’t too different. Kind of expect SF, PIT and CHI to all end up with 7-9 wins this year. Very very very similar teams. Bet accordingly

TENvsLAR

I’ll just sum this one up real quick. Both teams are good. TEN defense finally showed up. Fulton and Autry and severely underrated. Like McNicholas more than any other RB and will be starting him against not LAR. Jalen is the best CB in the NFL. Brown continues to be back, when he isn’t facing Ramsey expect HUGE things. This hurts Stafford’s MVP chances for sure but he’s still my frontrunner. LAR OL gets a pass in this one because they have been very good all year.

Process was off in this one but still love LAR and they are my favorite team in the NFL. I was probably the highest on TEN before their winning streak. Still really like the defense. People might write off the TEN defensive performance as lucky or something but they are wrong TEN defense is good. Can’t wait for Fulton to come back but jackrabbit is still very good

LAC vs PHI

Only 1 sack between these two defenses is not good. I’ll give a slight(er) pass to PHI because LAC has a very good OL

Herbert was mostly unstoppable this game. He looked amazing. One of the best games of his career if not the best. Had some early misses but realy settled in. His bad throws are down so fucking far from last year and that’s leading to a lot of success. Improving on his game for sure. Good to see him bounce back after 2 very not good games (for him and not me). Herbert like I’ve always said will be up and down. Has a tougher second half of the year than I thought but still a very good sophomore year so far

Why is Howard getting the lion’s share of carries, he looks fine but why would he get all these carries and Sanders gets like 10 a game. Fuck off Eagles you are doing things wrong. I guess it’s LAC run defense but still. Use Gainwell at least

Ekeler only getting a few targets is not great especially when these TEs are getting a bunch in the flat. Interesting development to take note of

PHI up at halftime and honeslty I’m not sure how. They keep running and keeping the ball away from Herbert which is good. That might be key tbh

God I love Herbert’s deep ball, rarely are there terrible passes deep from him. Lots of bad throws short in comparison

Another bend don’t break drive from PHI, really keeping them in a game where they should be losing

Good blocking by PHI on the designed runs, love that call too because I’m still very unconvinced about Hurts as a passer. Think I’m landing so far this year on below average

Mike Williams and Herbert on the deep ball should be unstoppable

For as much as I did compliment Herbert and I still stand by the above you have to credit his receivers with yards after the catch ability, they add a lot to his totals but I will concede more (now) that he’s taking those short ones because it’s smart not because he can’t throw intermediately which to be fair is his worst trait

Gainwell getting the goal line carry for the score instead of Howard just perplexes me. I hate the eagles coaches already

Ekeler def struggles running between the tackles, will 100% need the catching volume to be there to be worth the draft capital investment

Smith had a great game, plenty of big chunk gains to go along with Hurts rushing ability is very nice. Kinda matchups up well but not as well as Herbert + Williams.

Why we don’t see more cover 3 or more defenders in the flat vs LAC. They fucking always throw it short there

Last drive was never in doubt TBH, Herbert hitting short passes to move downfield slow but quick was great. Good running from Ekeler too

LAC is a good team, like a goodish 9 or 10 win team and PHI is a 6 or 7 win team. Was too close for sure. Vegas should have put the line at 3.5 I still would have taken LAC. Chargers have a rough schedule coming up, should be interesting to see how they handle it.

Think I’ve said it before and I can say it again, love both DLs. Samuel was a steal (but didn’t play), Slay is playing much better this year compared to last. This game just further echoed how I feel about both defenses. LAC and PHI worry me with the lac of production on sacks in this one tho

Hurts isn’t that great of a thrower but he doesn’t have to be, those legs carry him far. Only 5 different receivers got targets so yea start Smith and Dallas G and only them obvi. Both good enough for a high end start in fantasy even with Hurts being a sub optimal passer this season

GB vs KC

I love Love. One game doesn’t change that

Good to see Dillion getting more work

Great goal line D from KC, stopping the run with great tackling by the LBs and good DL block shedding. Kelce with a great grab to end the drive on a TD. Bailing Mahomes out a bit but not a bad throw

GB running a bunch early on, doing well especially blocking for it. Love the combo of Dillion and Jones, great thunder and lightning thing going on

Tyrann almost had a pick, damn

GB with two missed field goals already in the first 20 min. Damn

Mahomes with a long ball but plenty of GB defenders there, not great

Kelce with a drop, not good but made up for it by the TD grab

Like the running from Love, looking good in the pocket

Is something going on with Hill too? He’s fallen down a bunch this year on routes and they haven’t connected on the deep ball even when Hill is open in single coverage (the deep ball is on Mahomes)

Big problem for Love in this one is doing the Heinicke. It’s ok to lean on good receivers but if you do the passes have to be catchable. For most of the balls Love threw to Adams they were not very catchable. Not great. To be fair some of them were with pressure in Love’s face.

KC need s CEH back as soon as possible and they need to run the ball more with him. Too many passes and Mahomes isn’t a superhero this year. Have to adjust or maybe use CEH in the passing game? Idk man but he was great with Burrow in college. Why not use him like Shady in PHI

Cobb with a nice grab on a jump ball, good to see he still can go that

King almost got an INT on Mahomes, never thought I’d write that sentence

KC OL hasn’t lived up to the hype but to be fair it was a lot of hype. Only 1 sack but plenty of pressure

Maybe too many screen calls for Love? Idk I could be wrong on this

What’s the Mercedes prop for catches? I’ll take that over all day

Drop from Mecole does not help this struggling KC offense. How is the KC offenses struggling, let’s go weird 2021 season.

Sneed has been playing an OK gram vs Adams, great INT tho. Adams has been getting all the catches that were possible. Love has thrown some bad balls towards them both.

KC has done a good job at blitzing Love and forcing back throws. Love those calls since Love cannot handle the pressure

Cobb has a good game, if Love threw more and had less screens he would have been a great play

Love missed Adams on a deep ball but again the pressure got to him and forced a really bad throw

Lazard with a great little move to the get the TD, he’s been a fine receiver for GB but prob needs to be a 3rd like Tim Patrick and Cole. He’s somewhere in between them

KC ekes out a win they would not have gotten if Rodgers was the QB

Love got better as the game went on, he did not handle the pressure well. Liked that he used his legs a bunch. Don’t think KC is the worst defense in the league but it’s not good. Wanted to see more out of Love but it looked like, I assume because the game was close, they kept him under control with lots of screens and not enough play action

KC has some issues and they stem from the offense, which is really really really not good

SF vs ARI

can’t say much about it because I’m running out of time but Kittle is back and has always been very very very very good. Fuck off with anyone telling you and ranking him outside the top 3 for TEs

Eno Benjamin is exciting and I want him wherever I can

Colt McCoy killing SF defense without Hopkins is fucking ridiculous, same on SF. In the CHI/PIT/SF tier of teams.
